MotoGP announces provisional 2020 calendar

MotoGP announces provisional 2020 calendar

01 September 2019

This week MotoGP owner Dorna Sports revealed it’s provisional 2020 calendar, with the addition of a Finnish Grand Prix at the new-build KymiRing bringing the schedule up to 20 events. Start planning your 2020 MotoGP adventure with Motorsport Live and choose from a record-breaking 20 events in 2020.

The season will once more begin beneath the lights at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar, as it has done for over a decade. Thailand, which joined the roster in 2018, will move to a new March date, before MotoGP makes its usual spring visit to the Americas in April, with a visit to the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas followed by Argentina's round at Termas de Rio Honda.

The first stage of the European season will have a familiar feel; the Circuito de Jerez will be the first non-flyaway round of the year in early May, followed by the French Grand Prix at Le Mans two weeks later. Mugello and Barcelona will run back-to-back thereafter, while Germany has moved from July into June to form the first of a double-header with the Dutch TT at Assen.

There is only one new addition to the schedule in 2020 but it is a popular one! MotoGP and its support categories will race into Finland, at the newly-constructed KymiRing, on July 12, as the last race prior to the summer break.

The usual Czech Republic-Austria double-header will kick-start the second half of the campaign in August while the British Grand Prix is once again set to coincide with the summer Bank Holiday weekend, with a date of August 30 pencilled in for Silverstone. Before visits to Misano at a slightly later mid-September date and Aragon the third of four visits to Spain now set for October 4th.

The end-of-season Far East events will once more form a triple-header, with Japan (October 18), Australia (October 25) and Malaysia (November 1) sure to deliver a quick-fire series of frantic side-by-side action.

The record-breaking season will conclude, as usual, with the Valencian Grand Prix in mid-November.
