¡Bienvenidos a la Ciudad de México! Originally established in 1325 by the ancient Aztecs as an island, Mexico City offers a diverse range of cultural and historic highlights, such as its Metropolitan Cathedral, built in the Style of the Mexican Baroque, or Chapultepec Park, home to museums, a zoo and La Feria de Chapultepec Magico, the oldest and most traditional amusement park. The city also boasts two UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Historic Centre and the "Floating Gardens" of Xochimilco.
With a vast array of traditional fixed indoor markets and Tianguis street vendors, don’t forget to take advantage of the Mexican food culture and enjoy a wonderful dinner of Tacos, Burritos, Quesadillas and Guacamole, complemented with a shot of Tequila as a perfect end for a perfect Mexican night.
The closest airport to the circuit is Mexico City International Airport, located approximately 10km to the east of the city centre. Direct flights are available from London Heathrow, while other major international airports offer flights with stop-overs.
With over 160 museums, art galleries and concert halls, there is no shortage of things to do in Mexico City! From the Historic City Centre, to the various shopping malls, to the nearby Mesoamerican architecture of the pyramids in nearby Teotihuacan, Mexico City is a place rich with history and culture.
Some of our favourite places to explore include the National Museum of Anthropology, which is the most visited museum in Mexico, which contains significant artefacts from the city's ancient Aztec heritage. For art lovers, the Museo de Arte Moderno, located in Chapultepec Park houses a strong collection of modern art and the Museo Soumaya in the West of the city houses the largest collection of Salvador Dalí sculptures. For those passionate about music, a trip to the National Auditorium is a must, where regular performances from Spanish and English artists occur.
Once you've been sight seeing, remember to visit the Historic Centre for a spot of shopping. Famous for its mixture of shopping malls, luxury boutiques and streets dedicated to particular merchandise, there is sure to be something for everyone.
When it comes to eating in Mexico, you are spoilt for choice. Traditional Mexican Street Food (predominantly vegetarian) can be found on the Tiangius or open street markets. More western restaurants can be found in the Polanco district of the city, along with many bars and clubs if you want to sample the Mexican nightlife.
With its tropical location and high elevation, Mexico City has a subtropical highland climate. In October the city starts to cool down, with the average temperature ranging from 17-23 degrees. However, it can also be quite humid with the afternoons being the hottest time of the day. It is also not uncommon for rainfall, so we recommend to pack some waterproof clothing just in case!
